MANILA, PHILIPPINES – Recognizing the proactive role of the Commission on Filipinos Overseas  (CFO) in advocating for channeling of remittances for development,  the Asian Development Bank (ADB) has chosen the agency as one of the sites for the March 20 field visit of foreign delegates from ADB’s International Forum on Promoting Remittances for Development.

First Regional Consultation on Migrants Caught In Countries In Crisis Held In Manila

On 23-24 March, the Commission on Filipinos Overseas (CFO), on behalf of the Philippine government, hosted a regional consultation for South, South-East and East Asian countries under the global ‘Migrants in Countries in Crisis’ (MICIC) initiative. The meeting provided an opportunity for governments to exchange views and identify best practices on how to assist migrants in countries in crisis. As Ambassador Guy Ledoux of the EU Delegation to the Philippines explained in his opening remarks, ‘we know that many countries, notably the Philippines but also others in Asia, already have good systems in place to protect their nationals abroad, and we want to learn from these experiences’.

The Commission on Filipinos Overseas (CFO) gathered the country’s most influential Filipino community leaders from around the world  for the  3rd Global Summit  last  February 25-27 at the Manila Hotel

MANILA, Philippines (March 5, 2015) – In 2014, around 10.5 million Overseas Filipinos (OF) working or residing in more than 200 countries had remitted an astounding $28 billion or P1.2 trillion to the country, according to the World Bank. And yet, the Commission on Filipinos Overseas (CFO), the primary government agency tasked to protect and uphold the rights and welfare of OFs, says there’s a much more important currency that global Filipinos are sending back. They are social remittances.
