To advance the professional skills of Filipino nurses and celebrate the Filipino nurses’ diaspora, hundreds of Filipino nurses from different parts of the world converged in Pasay City, Philippines on 25-26 January 2018 to participate in the 2018 Global Summit of Filipino Nurses and International Nursing Conference at The Blue Leaf Filipinas. The Nursing Summit was attended by five hundred eighty-five (585) representatives from Canada, Germany, Guam, Ireland, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Sultanate of Oman, United Arab Emirates, United States of America and the Philippines.

Starting the year 2018 on a high note, the Commission on Filipinos Overseas (CFO) formally received the certification from the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), marking a significant milestone in 37 years of service to Filipino emigrants and overseas Filipinos. Receiving the ISO 9001:2015 certification capped CFO’s two year journey towards establishing a Quality Management System (QMS) covering CFO’s entire process that ensures a consistent level of quality service to its clients, partners, and stakeholders.

This week marks the nation’s annual commemoration to honor the heroism of Filipino war veterans who gallantly fought and gave their lives during the Second World War, the Korean and Vietnam Wars, as well as various insurgency campaigns in the country.

The theme for this year’s celebration is “Ika-75 Taon: Parangal sa mga Beterano Tungo sa Bayan na Nararapat sa Pilipino, Pilipino na Nararapat sa Bayan”. The celebration promotes and preserves the ideals and deeds of the Filipino war veterans as a means to enhance patriotism and love of country, especially among the Filipino youth.

Good News for all Filipino Centenarians (100 years old and up) living overseas– you may now apply for your cash incentive worth Php 100,000 from the Philippine government at the nearest Philippine Embassy or Consulate.

The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) recently approved on March 9, 2017 the Availment of Awards and Incentives for Overseas Filipino Centenarians Guidelines, after the passage of Republic Act 10868 or the Centenarian Act of 2016. The guidelines was drafted by the Commission on Filipinos Overseas (CFO), which serves as the focal agency in charge with coordination with centenarian applicants based abroad.

Did you know that… the US remains the no. 1 destination country of Filipino emigrants;  Filipinas prefer American, Japanese and Australian citizens as life-partner among foreign nationals; the average age of Filipinos migrating permanently overseas is 31 years old; and the internet and social media play an important role in the migration of Filipinos?
