The greatest wealth of a nation is its people. It is therefore a moral obligation of the state to provide basic health care for its citizens. In fact, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (Paris 1948, art. 25) upholds that "Everyone has the right to a standard of living adequate for the health and well-being of himself and of his family, including food, clothing, housing and medical care and necessary social services..."
The World Surgical Foundation, Inc. (WSF) based in Pennsylvania, USA conducted a medical and surgical mission in San Jose City, Nueva Ecija on 07-11 February 2011. The mission headed by WSF President Dr. Domingo T. Alvear, performed 211 surgical procedures, 169 of which are major surgeries and 42 are minor surgeries. Beneficiaries included 75 children aged 1 to 17 years old.
