Overseas Filipinos and OFW families from Leyte Province and Eastern Visayas are invited to the upcoming Regional Migrant Fair at the Leyte Academic Center, Gym in Palo, Leyte on Monday, November 11, 2019. The event is organized by the Inter-Agency Committee on the Celebration of the Month of Overseas Filipinos (IAC-MOF), led by the Philippine Migrants Rights Watch and the Commission on Filipinos Overseas (CFO), in partnership with the Provincial Government of Leyte and Municipal Government of Palo.

The Fair with the theme “OFs NGAYON, BALIK–PINAS BUKAS”, is part of the series of activities for the 2019 Month of Overseas Filipinos Celebration. Started in 1988 by virtue of Proclamation No. 276, the MOF is a month-long celebration every December as our nation’s way of recognizing all overseas Filipinos for their hard work and efforts, sacrifices and significant contributions to local and national development.

During the Fair, participants may avail of free basic medical check-up, participate in health promotional and wellness activities, and consult with migrant-serving agencies that include the Department of Health (DOH), Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), CFO, Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), National Reintegration Center for OFWs (NRCO), Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA), Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), National Economic Development Authority (NEDA), Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO), PhilHealth, Social Security System (SSS), Pag-IBIG, International Organization for Migration (IOM), and Migrant Forum in Asia (MFA), among others. The event will also include a mini trade fair showcasing products of successful OFW returnees/ families, and a short forum on migration and sharing of inspiring stories of OFs.

Leyte Governor Leopoldo Dominico L. Petilla and Palo Municipal Mayor Frances Ann B. Petilla are expected to grace the event.

CFO Secretary Francisco P. Acosta and Usec. Astravel Pimentel-Naik said that the event is part of CFO’s commitment to the policy pronouncement of President Rodrigo Duterte in providing assistance to overseas Filipinos and bringing government services closer to migrants and their families.

The MOF Regional Fair in Leyte is part of the series of activities being organized at the local, national and international levels by the IAC-MOF. The Regional Migrant Fair already kicked off in South Cotabato and Sorsogon last October 16 and 25, 2019, respectively.
