Description:

The Coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted and affected economic activities, delivery of some government programs and services, and the normal day-to-day life of people worldwide. The pandemic which was declared by the World Health Organization a “global health emergency”, has overwhelmed the healthcare system, claimed thousands of lives and adversely affected overseas Filipinos.

As of August 1, 2020, the Department of Foreign Affairs reported that the total number of overseas Filipinos affected with COVID-19 hit the 9,500 mark with 671 casualties, in 71 countries, including Japan. The country is among the top destination countries of our Filipino emigrants and marriage migrants. Aside from many healthcare front liners and OFs who lost their lives, thousands have lost their jobs and were forced to return to the Philippines.

Since February 2020, more than 115,000 were repatriated by the DFA back to the Philippines. As more and more overseas Filipinos are affected by COVID-19, the Commission on Filipinos Overseas remains committed in assisting them and innovating its program under the “New Normal” for the migrants’ welfare and well-being.

In line with this, the CFO is inviting overseas Filipinos in Japan to join us in our first ONLINE UGNAYAN SA JAPAN, which will be held on August 22, 2020 (Saturday), 1:00-4:00 pm (Japan Standard Time). We have invited Filipino community leaders, Presidential awardees, and experts to talk about the issues and challenges faced by Filipinos in Japan during this COVID-19 pandemic and how the Philippine government could assist them.

The Online Ugnayan is the first in the series of webinars being organized by the CFO to strengthen our ties and link with Filipino communities.

Participants should register at www.tinyurl.com/CFOOnlineUgnayansaJapan. The Zoom link will be provided upon registration. Please note that an electronic Certificate of Participation will be given upon accomplishing the event evaluation form at the end of the webinar.
