CFO Secretary and Chairperson, Justice Francisco P. Acosta (Ret.) turned-over the monetary designs made by Presidential Awardee and US-based Paul Balan to BSP Governor Diokno at the sidelines of the Financial Inclusion Steering Committee held at the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas.

Justice Francisco P. Acosta (Ret.), Secretary and Chairperson of the Commission on Filipinos Overseas proudly handed a set of monetary designs to BSP Governor Benjamin Diokno at the sidelines of the 7th meeting of the Financial Inclusion Steering Committee (FISC) held at the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas on July 5, 2019.

The designs feature the artistic rendition of the Lupang Hinirang undertaken by 2018 Presidential Awardee Paul Cainto Balan for possible consideration of the BSP in future designs of the Philippine banknotes or coins.

BSP Governor Benjamin Diokno expressed his gratitude to Mr. Balan, thru Sec. Acosta for the artworks and designs. The Secretary also informed Gov. Diokno that Mr. Balan created designs for U.S. coins and medals, most notably the State Quarters series of coins.

Mr. Balan was conferred the Pamana ng Pilipino Award by President Rodrigo Roa Duterte on December 5, 2018 in recognition of his stature as the first Filipino and first Asian US coin designer. He is an artist of the prestigious Artistic Infusion Program of the United States Mint, whose designs were selected for commemorative coins and congressional medals since 2010.
