Did you know that Filipino emigrants en route to Japan in 1988-2018 were mostly female and relatively young? Of the total 150,132 Filipino emigrants bound for Japan from 1998 to 2018, 82.77% or 125,265 were female while only 17.23% or 25,867 were male.

Data obtained by the Commission on Filipinos Overseas (CFO) during this period also show that more than half of the overall Japan-bound Filipino emigrant population in 1988-2018 were aged 20-29 at the time of their registration. In fact, the Top 3 age groups among these emigrants pre-departure were 25 to 29-year-olds at 29.26% or 43,934, followed by 20 to 24-year-olds with a fairly thin margin at 25.97% or 38,983, and children aged 14 or younger at 10.72% or 16,092. Also, emigrants aged 50 or older only made up 1.35% of the total number of Japan-bound Filipino emigrants during the said time period.
