Did you know? Japan ranked as the Top 2 country of destination among Filipino spouses, fiancé(e)s, and other partners of foreign nationals from 2009 to 2019, making up 9.8% or 22,177 of the approximately 220,000 Filipino marriage migrants in the said period.
In 2009, the CFO recorded the highest annual count of Filipino spouses and partners en route to Japan at 3,197. While there was a decrease in the subsequent years until 2012, the yearly number of Japan-bound Filipino marriage migrants was still relatively high, with an average of 2,375 spouses and partners per year. Beginning in 2013, it slowly decreased to more than a thousand annually until it started to follow a clear downward trend except for a small bump in 2016 and 2017, which signified a minimal increase.
