The Commission on Filipinos Overseas congratulates and warmly welcomes Secretary Francisco “Nick” P. Acosta as the new Chairperson of the Commission. He was appointed by President Rodrigo Duterte on August 20, 2018.
Prior to his appointment, Secretary Acosta was a former Court of Appeals Associate Justice. He served at the second-highest judicial court in the Philippines (next to the Supreme Court) for more than a decade. His expertise is on litigation and corporate law, legal ethics, labor laws and social legislation.
He also previously served as Consultant at the House of Representatives and Office of Taguig City Mayor, and Board Director Member of the Philippine National Oil Company. He is currently a faculty member of his alma mater, the San Beda College of Law, where he was a consistent full scholar and graduated among the top of his class. He is the current President and Board of Trustees Member of the San Beda Law Alumni Association, and a recipient of the “Most Outstanding Bedan” for 2007.
CFO’s Executive Director, Undersecretary Astravel Pimentel-Naik is excited with Justice Acosta’s appointment. “The CFO family is looking forward to a more exciting, challenging and productive days ahead in serving the Filipino emigrants and overseas Filipinos under Secretary Acosta’s leadership,” Usec. Secretary Acosta hailed from Solano, Nueva Vizcaya and followed on the footsteps of his father who was a judge. He is not only a dedicated and outstanding public servant and educator but also a civic and religious volunteer, family-oriented man, and a proud “Ulirang Ama” awardee. He is married to Alma Madayag-Acosta. They are blessed with four children and four grandchildren.
